Electric Blue Eyeliner Makeup Tutorial

I've been desperate to get in the swing of spring lately. Minnesota winters are brutal and this one especially. I just placed an order of dresses and flats/sandals to get ready for warm weather, and wanted to do a tutorial on a look that would be perfect for the summer.

I love "pop of color" looks and since blue is my favorite color, I decided to show it off. Blue can be a tricky color on the eyes, because the last thing you want to do is overdo it and look like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show.

Yet when done right, blue eyes can be drop dead gorgeous. I'm a huge fan of using deep or electric blues yet keeping the look as a whole very bright.

I decided to use a blue liquid liner for the upper lid and blue mascara on the lower lashes. Blue on all the lashes would definitely be too much, but by keeping it subtle, you can highlight your favorite color and still keep it classy ;)

Enjoy!!

Wing/Cat Eyeliner, 3 Looks!

So it's no secret that I.Love.Winged.Liner! I pretty much wing my liner out on a daily basis and I think it best fits my eye shape. I know there are people out there though who don't know how or of any good ways to rock the cat eye without defaulting to pin up or 50's-esque looks.

Now granted, while I'm also a huge lover of retro makeup, I tried to come up with 3 modern and relatively easy ways to style the eye.

I got my inspiration from a makeup magazine I purchased a few weeks ago (I'll post the name soon, I left it at work!) and the outfit I was wearing.

The first is definitely the easiest, a simple black on white cat eye. I LOVE really toned down eye looks like this because then you can do whatever you want with your lips and get away with it. You could go from violet, to fire engine red to barbie pink lips and it'd all look good with such a subtle eye look.

Next I went with a look I've been meaning to try for FOREVER. I love yellow shadows but have found a yellow eye is extremely hard to pull off. The color rarely looks good on most skin tones and you really need to get the perfect bright, not muddy yellow to do it right.

Last I did a toned down smokey eye with some thicker liner. Being as pale as I am, I normally never wear black shadow (or liner for that matter, I usually go with brown) as it always makes me look too harsh or punky. To avoid that issue, I went with cool browns and taupes to build up the smokey effect and added the drama with the liner. Still very wearable but not as subtle as the 1st look :)

I hope you enjoy, I'll stop blabbering now!

Snazzy Eyes, Coral Lips Makeup Tutorial

I said I'd be back quick with a new tutorial and here it is! A snazzy, shimmery eye look with bright coral lips!  I decided to do this look after getting the new L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lip Lacquer in Coral Tattoo. I've always been a huge fan of coral lip colors, but have had the worst time finding a shade that suits me without looking too orange or harsh against my skin.

I've finally found it, this color is beautiful and the formula feels amazing!! I've heard from other bloggers/youtubers that these lip lacquers are supposed to be dupes for a YSL lip line, but I can't really speak to that. YSL is far too rich for my blood! I'll take their word for it though, because for the price, this is a wonderful lip product!

OK, enough babbling, enjoy the tutorial! Don't forget to comment if you like the look!

Simple Batgirl Halloween Costume/Makeup Tutorial

So Halloween is coming up quick and I know there's people like me out there who love Halloween but have the hardest time coming up with a costume or making one happen... For as much as I love the holiday, I'm usually super lazy about the costumes I wear.

A few years ago I was a bum Yoshi (aka me in a green hoodie, green sweatpants and a tail sewn on...). The next year I just wore a pin up dress I owned and did my hair and my boyfriend was trying to go as Larry King but looked more like Colonel Sanders.... And last year I just went out in my normal clothes with a slit throat haha

So this year I put a real effort in to my costume, but I'm honestly not a huge fan of the costume sets sold in most Halloween stores. I didn't want to be a "sexy" batgirl or really "sexy" anything. C'mon, It'll be late October in Minnesota, I need my ass covered! So I put together this costume from a few things at the Halloween store and a few things I had at home.

I did all my actual shopping at the Spirit Halloween Store on a weekend when everything was 30% off. I got the tank top/cape for $23 (+ the discount) and the gloves/mask for $10 (I believe...). The shorts were $9. I had the thick sparkle tights, combat boots and yellow belt already. And that's the costume! I curled up my hair and did some pin up-esque makeup and transformed in to vintage
Batgirl!

So there you have it, my ultra geeky, simple Batgirl look! I hope everyone has a fun, safe Halloween!!!

Rose Gold Inspired Makeup Tutorial

This look was inspired by rose gold jewelry. I've been in LOVE with it lately (like the rest of the world) and did this look getting ready for work one day. When I was done, it really made me think of some rose gold jewelry I've been drooling over and wanting to buy, so I wanted to do a tutorial for it :) It's simple, elegant and classy, perfect for day or night.

Enjoy!

August Favorites!

Eep! Once again I've been MIA. I swear it hasn't been intenitonal though! It's turned out to be a very very very busy summer for me and I really haven't had time to do much updating here or on my Youtube channel but that doesn't mean I've been a bum!

I have a few looks planned out to do tutorials on for my Youtube Channel and I recently filmed a video for the Best Friends tag that I just have to finish editing! Once that's posted the world will see what nerds my best friend Marie and I are :)

To get back in to the swing of things here, I decided to post giving quick reviews of some of my favorite products that I've been using religiously this last month or so.

NYX Bohemian Chic Nude Matte Collection

This is without a doubt one of my favorite new neutral eye palettes. I dare say I even love it more than the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. Sure it's 100% matte, but I swear I'm in love with every one of these colors! PLUS it comes with 2 blushes and the lighter shade is super flattering for paler skin. It gives a perfect flushed look without looking like you're wearing blush.

I've been using this palette nearly every day for the last month on my eyes. The browns are perfect for adding depth to the crease and the lighter shades brighten up the lid without looking fake. Can't say enough how much I LOVE this palette!

Physicians Formula Eye Booster™ 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum - Deep Brown

I'd held off buying these eyeliners from Physicians Formula because I used to be very wary of using felt tip eyeliners after trying a few awful ones but after loving the L'Oreal one, I decided to trust the tons of rave reviews I read and buy the pen in deep brown. (note, I've recently become obsessed with brown liner... no idea why!)
And the verdict? *dies* This pen is HEAVEN! It's so smooth and defined but very pigmented and I rarely ever have to go over the line a 2nd time. I went out and bought one in Very Black and I have 0 complaints about either. A new fave for sure!

EyeStudio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow - Smokey Night

This is actually the very first Maybelline Color Plush quad I've bought. I've heard nothing but good things about them but just never got around to buying one. The Smokey Night quad immediately caught my eye when I noticed how much glitter was in it *drools* My first impression was that it would simmer down my impulse to buy the NARS shadows every time I go in to Sephora.

I was in love with how glittery and pigmented the NARS shadows were and I'd never really seen any other brand with THAT mutch glitter while still looking beautiful and mature, and that was the first thing I saw when I found this quad. Still a little too gaudy to use heavilly during the day, I have been using the first far left color as a liner defuser and it's gorgeous! It leaves some glitter but the color is subdued enough to not look over the top. Very impressed! (AND I can avoid spending $24+ a pop on the NARS shadows!)

Happy Booster™ Glow & Mood Boosting Blush - Warm

Another Physicians Formula product I've wanted for ages but just never bought. I finally caved and got it when it was in a buy 1 get 1 50% promo. VERY glad I did it! It gives a beautiful subtle flush to the cheeks but it's buildable and not too shimmery so you won't look like Tinkerbell while wearing it.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer - Downtown Brown

Last but not least! My OMGIHAVETOHAVEIT buy. I saw this nail polish and immediately thought Urban Decay's Lounge, my all time favorite UD shadow.
My lighting makes it a little hard to tell, but the nail color has that same green/brown/red duotone effect. It's comes off more green with 2 coats on the nails, but with 1 coat it looks very similar to Lounge. That's literally the only reason I bought it......... Fun fact, it looks awesome with a matte clear coat over it and GORGEOUS when 1 layer is applied over red polish.

So that's all for now! I have to cut down on my chatty time for each product, I go on and on! Sorry for any rambling! Looking forward to posting more regularly in the near future!

Eyeliner Review from Best to Worst

I've gone through more eyeliners than I can count and tend to use liquid/felt tip liners most often. I decided to make a list of my personal favorite/least favorite liquid/felt tip liners. I have them listed from best to worst.
Below is a picture with the swatches in the same order of the list, best to worst, from left to right. (the last swatch is in green because I hated the black I used so much I'd already thrown it away, but I still had the product in green...)

#1. BEST - L'oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner - Black Mica
I LOVE this felt tip liner. I use it nearly every day and have re-purchased it several times. The felt tip is the perfect size, not TOO skinny and definitely not too thick. The line comes out precise and smooth, and I can get sharp points whenever I decide to go with a cat-eye/winged liner look. The formula is long-lasting, but not waterproof (which I prefer). It CAN smudge slightly througout the day right at the area where your outer eyelid creases/wrinkles when you close your eye, but it's typically not until late in the day and I normally don't wear my liner that low.
All in all, the pros way outway the cons and I can't say enough how much I love this liner!

#2 - NYX Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner
This is my go-to liner whenever I want that classic pin-up flawless eyeliner look. The formula is great and super pigmented, and I've had no trouble with it smudging or wearing off throughout the day. The line it makes is extremely precise and I get the sharpest point with this liner. Love it!

#3 - Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner - Perversion
I've never been a huge fan of waterproof eyeliners or mascaras, but in the situations that I know I'm going to need it, I use this liner every time. I've used this liner at waterparks, funerals and when I've been out and sweaty and it's never budged. The color comes off pretty good, though I occasionally need to apply 2 coats to get it as dark as I want it. The formula comes out smooth and again, once it's on, it's not coming off until you wash it with makeup remover.

#4 - e.l.f Liquid Eyeliner
For the ridiculously low price, this liquid liner is amazing! I love this stuff! I believe this only costs $1 per liner in stores, and I've had nothing but good results with it. I use the liquid liner in brown most often which gives super natural results. The pigmentation is slighly light, so I normally use 2 coats, and it CAN smudge/wear off a bit throughout the day, but again, for the price, I love love love this liner. I haven't been able to find a brown liquid liner I like more than this one :)

#5 - NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker
I'm not a huge fan of this felt tip liner. The formula isn't as wet as the L'Oreal brand and I've had trouble getting it to apply smooth over eyeshadow. The line is gives IS extremely fine and detailed, but I've just never been able to get it to apply to the eye fluidly. It doesn't roll over the lid smoothly and it seems like it dries out halfway through and need to be wiped off/shaked to get it to work.

#6 - L'Oreal Telescopic Precision Liquid Eyeliner
I have no complaints with the formula, as it's extremely pigmented but I'm awful using the blunt rubber tip. It's no good for precision lines and the product tends to go everywhere. This may just be a user error since I'm not used to using this kind of applicator, but it's definitely not a user friendly product.

#7 - Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner - Everlast
Ok... normally I'm a Milani lover, but I HATE this product! The formula is too thick, the brush is too big and it's a pain to get off. The only plus I can give this product is that it calls itself 24 hour, and I don't doubt it is. I took it off immediatly after using it, but for how hard it was to remove, I don't doubt it would last all day and night. The formula itself is extremely thick and tends to clump, and the brush itself is too wide and makes fine lines impossible. I couldn't see myself ever using this liner in black and I ended up tossing it, but I do have the product in green which I honestly can say I do like. I do use the green as an accent color and it works great for that because it won't wear off, but I will never buy the black again.

Phew! So those are my favorite/least favorite liquid and felt tip liners. I've tried most of them (minus the last one) several times and hope this review can help out anyone looking for a good black liner!

Till next time!
