Smokey Rose Eyes

Not much to say other than I love this makeup look! I was trying out a few new things this week when getting ready for work and got the idea for this after using Mushroom as my liner. At the time I didn't pair it with a warm shadow, but thought the contrast would be pretty, and voila!

I hope you enjoy!

Electric Blue Eyeliner Makeup Tutorial

I've been desperate to get in the swing of spring lately. Minnesota winters are brutal and this one especially. I just placed an order of dresses and flats/sandals to get ready for warm weather, and wanted to do a tutorial on a look that would be perfect for the summer.

I love "pop of color" looks and since blue is my favorite color, I decided to show it off. Blue can be a tricky color on the eyes, because the last thing you want to do is overdo it and look like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show.

Yet when done right, blue eyes can be drop dead gorgeous. I'm a huge fan of using deep or electric blues yet keeping the look as a whole very bright.

I decided to use a blue liquid liner for the upper lid and blue mascara on the lower lashes. Blue on all the lashes would definitely be too much, but by keeping it subtle, you can highlight your favorite color and still keep it classy ;)

Enjoy!!

Decorating My Wedding

Surprise surprise, I'm going with a retro look for my wedding. I'm trying to make sure I get the vintage pieces I like without going over the top or overkilling the theme. I want everything to be simple and beautiful, elegant but still casual enough for everyone to have a great time.

My lovely ladies :) I wasn't very interested in making my girls wear the same dresses. All I really care about is that the dresses are red, short, and that the girls feel beautiful in them! I decided to go with Alfred Sung dresses, so my bridesmaids could choose the style of dress they're most comfy in while staying the same color and relatively same look. Above are the styles they chose. My maid of honor to the far left, then my sisters and Steve's sisters to the right. Very cute if I say so myself! Can't wait to see it all in person!!

They will all be in black shoes with subtle jewelry. Not sure what I want to do for them for flowers yet... more to come on that!

I've always said I wanted "Reservoir Dogs" for the guys in my wedding and thankfully Steve was on board! All the guys will be wearing plain black suits with thin black ties. Steve will get a red boutonniere and the rest of the guys will get white.

Since I decided to go with paper flowers, I've been skimming through Pinterest for ideas on what to do for centerpieces. I originally planned to do real flowers, under water in vases with candles floating on top. Once I said farewell to doing real flowers, I thought I could do little vases full of paper flowers, but that sounded a little too plain. Then I found the above arrangement and fell in love! Especially because it's using the style of flowers I already figured I'd go with :) I want to do little flower wreaths around a vase and may or may not put a candle inside... we'll see, they'd have to be taller vases to make sure nothing starts on fire... Bleh, so much to consider!

These are the colors/styles I'll be using.

I'm still not 100% set up on what I want to do with my hair, but I really do like the above picture. I like that it's simple, classic and could be taken down if I felt like it later in to the night. I'm doing a few trials to see if I'd be able to pull it off myself, otherwise I'll look in to tracking down a stylist for the big day.

And lastly, make up. Nothing too surprising there, I want to go with a subtle, simple wing liner look with bold red lips. Subtle blush and maybe a little contouring for the pictures.

That's what I have so far! For all the stress planning a wedding causes, the styling of it really is the fun part. I want the look to be classic, creative and unique, without breaking the bank!!!

If anyone has any decorating tricks, tips or DIY's, please comment below! I'm very open to suggestions and will appreciate anything ideas :)

XOXOXO

NYX Haul + Makeup Look

I've been avoiding makeup shopping for the last several months to work on saving money, and well... because I know I basically have more than enough makeup to my name as it is. BUT, be that as it may, NYX recently released a ton of new products and I've been dying to try them out. SO, I took a trip to Ulta and came out with a few new (and not so new) things.

First off, not so new products I purchased was the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, a must have which I was running very low on. I also re-purchased the HD Photogenic Concealer in Fair. I LOVE this concealer. Its turned in to my favorite. Its medium to full coverage, but doesn't set in to fine lines and matches my foundation perfectly.

Now, on to new things!

I'm a big fan of the NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder, and when I saw they came out with a foundation I had to give it a go. First thoughts, after just using it once: I'm not really sure about it.
The color is *gasp* nearly to light for me!? I can still work with it, it's just very light. When I tested it on my hand, it appeared to be more on the full-coverage side, but when actually applying it to my face, it took a bit of work to get it blended and appeared to be more of a light-medium coverage. I'll have to do a more in depth review after I've used it a bit more.

A not new product, but new to me is the Jumbo Eye Pencil in Knight. When I swatched it, it looked like a black to almost mossy green shade with gold flecks in it. Very beautiful, and I think it will go great to make a simple smokey eye.

One thing I got that I was very excited about is the Collection Noir Powder Brown Liner. After my first use, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it. I really liked the idea of using it to give a less harsh, smoked out liner but it leaves a lot of fall out, and the product is VERY pigmented. I would advise against using it without something to catch the fall out or you could end up with raccoon eyes.

I bought 2 single eyeshadows. The first is the Nude Matte shadow in Underneathe It All. It's a medium warm brown shade that I thought would be perfect for defining the crease.
The 2nd is a Glam Shadow in Sparks. It's a cream/champagne shadow with gold glitter infused in it. It's a gorgeous color, but the glitter has some serious fall out you need to watch out for.

Finally, last but not least, I got the Love in Florence Palette in Meet My Romeo. I was attracted to the colors in this palette because they looked like they could be used to make a great natural/neutral look or a smoked out evening eye. Plus I fell instantly in love with the shimmery taupe. I created a quick eye look using this palette that you can see below.

I must say, I'm a tad disappointed with this palette. I was really hoping for more color payoff, especially with the 2 shimmery shades but as you can see in the above swatch, they came out very faint. I refused to give up on the palette though, and found foiling the shadows with a little water helped bring the color and metallic sheen out.

Above is me with just foundation/concealer and my brows done.

I started by applying the taupe color with a little water to the inner corners of the eyes to brighten up the look.

I also used water to apply a wash of the bronze all over the lid, up to the crease.

I used a pencil brush to add the matte light brown at the outer crease, bringing it up to about halfway across the eye.

I went over that with a small amount of the dark brown.

I blended the 2 brown shadows out with a fluffy brush to diffuse the harsh lines.

I applied the peach shade to the brow bone.

I used my favorite Physicians Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner in Deep Brown to line the eyes.

And applied a coat of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

And the eyes are complete!

I finished off the look with Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush in Warm and Covergirl lipstick in Delish.

Let me know if you've tried any of the new NYX products and if there are any must have's!

LOTD

So here goes my very first look of the day! I've decided to go with makeup looks over clothing looks. I love clothes but I don't consider myself a "fashionista" of any sort. I thought it would be fun doing quick looks and just pictures of what steps I used for an occasional update rather than making everything a video.

Enjoy!

Start with the face. I just got Kat Von D's Lock-It foundation and I loove it. A few words of wisdom when using this foundation... A little goes a VERY long way. I only have to pump out a pea size amount and just use my finger to dab it in problem spots over my face, then I smooth it all out with a brush. I've read a lot of reviews and the most common complaint is that the foundation makes it look like you're wearing a mask, which definitely IS the case if you put on too much, but if you use the tiniest amount, it covers up imperfections and gives a nice natural mostly-matte finish.

The shade I went with is about a half a shade too pale for me *gasp - that never happens!!!* but I tone it down with powder.

These are the products I used for the face.
Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation - Light 42
Maybellline Dream Matte Powder - Light
Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush - Warm
NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder - Sunny

I'm starting off by using 2 shadows from Urban Decay's first Naked Palette.

From 3/4 of the way across my lid, I'm crating a wing with Toasted.

I'm taking Hustle and darkening the wing at the lash line, letting Tosted peak out the top.

Use a fluffy brush to lightly blend out the edges.

Next I used S.A.L.T.Y Cosmetics Glama-ZOID loose shadow on the inner corners and middle of the lid. This is a GORGEOUS iridescent pink/white shadow. You can't see it very well in the pictures but it looks amazing and really makes green eyes pop!

I'm taking the light side of the Love & Beauty by Forever21 Eyeshadow Duo and applying it to the middle of the lower lid near the lash line with my finger to make the eyes look more open and bright.

I lined my eyes with my FAVORITE eyeliner, Physicians Formula Eye Booster in Deep Brown, creating a wing at the ends.

Then applied some mascara to the upper lashes and outer corners of the lower lashes. I used Whats Your Type? Black Mascara from theBalm.

And the look is complete!

It's a subtle eye look but still stands out when wearing my glasses. This has been a go-to look I've worn a few days in a row this last week for work. I LOVE the Glama-ZOID shadow. I saw it in one of the past Glam Bags on www.ipsy.com (which I didn't get) and wanted it so I ordered that and a few other samples from S.A.L.T.Y Cosmetics.

Hope you all like this look! I'll try to get one out every week (unless I'm being lazy...)

XOXOXO

Simple Batgirl Halloween Costume/Makeup Tutorial

So Halloween is coming up quick and I know there's people like me out there who love Halloween but have the hardest time coming up with a costume or making one happen... For as much as I love the holiday, I'm usually super lazy about the costumes I wear.

A few years ago I was a bum Yoshi (aka me in a green hoodie, green sweatpants and a tail sewn on...). The next year I just wore a pin up dress I owned and did my hair and my boyfriend was trying to go as Larry King but looked more like Colonel Sanders.... And last year I just went out in my normal clothes with a slit throat haha

So this year I put a real effort in to my costume, but I'm honestly not a huge fan of the costume sets sold in most Halloween stores. I didn't want to be a "sexy" batgirl or really "sexy" anything. C'mon, It'll be late October in Minnesota, I need my ass covered! So I put together this costume from a few things at the Halloween store and a few things I had at home.

I did all my actual shopping at the Spirit Halloween Store on a weekend when everything was 30% off. I got the tank top/cape for $23 (+ the discount) and the gloves/mask for $10 (I believe...). The shorts were $9. I had the thick sparkle tights, combat boots and yellow belt already. And that's the costume! I curled up my hair and did some pin up-esque makeup and transformed in to vintage
Batgirl!

So there you have it, my ultra geeky, simple Batgirl look! I hope everyone has a fun, safe Halloween!!!
XOXOXO
