Ulta Glitter Haul!

I went shopping on my lunch break on Saturday during school and came back to class with an Ulta shopping bag full of glitter... Not my proudest moment :)

I really wanted some red glitter to wear on my eyes for Christmas Eve, and was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for, and on clearance!

Most of what I bought was NYX, and I got some misc. loose glitter from Splash! and 2 pairs of false lashes from Eylure.
These are the glitter liquid liners from NYX and the 2 cream eyeliner pencil colors.
These are the 3 large loose glitters from NYX
And all the colors I got from Splash!

Pink Hair Tutorial

I felt like adding some color to my hair over the weekend, so I went with hot pink!
I didn't want a ton of color, but enough to add a little fun.

I chose to use Jerome Russell's semi permanent dye in "Flamingo Pink". I bought it from Ulta for cheap! I used to use that brand a ton, when I went super red and tangerine orange. It lasts a long time and a little goes a LONG way!

Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIE!!!!!!!!!!!

So its my best friend Marie's birthday today, and she  let me do her hair and makeup for her big bash!

She wanted a fun, retro but not too crazy look, so I went with red shadow to match her dress over the black, winged liner.
AND! I had some lovely bejeweled fake lashes for her to wear : )
Her hair is always an adventure.  Its LONG and super super thick, so I had to divide it all in a few pony's then curled and wrapped them around to create a lot of messy curls.
And I had to give her a little curl in the bangs!

Sort of a barbarella-esque look, and she rocked it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOME SLICE!!!!!!!!!!

Gina let me do her hair and makeup again :)

Once again, the lovely Gina! She let me do her hair and makeup for a party she was going to after class!
I cut her hair too.  Before she had an asymmetrical bob, where one side of her hair was down to her chin and the other was cut above her ear.  She was sick of it so she let me even it up for her :) I just cut the front side of her hair at a diagonal to match the other side and did a uniform cut for the rest of her hair.  Looks great on her!

She went with purples on her eyes, and I used some white shimmer shadow to highlight her cheekbones/bridge of her nose.

A few more pics from the show~

Me and my model Mollie!

Lauren  and her model, doing an urban masquerade look.  She looked amazing!! She hand painted that mask! She won 2nd place in the fantasy category.

Tiffany and her model Mo. They won 1st place in fantasy! She had a tribal theme.

Again, it was a wonderful night and everyone did an awesome job! I (hopefully!) won't be in school for the next salon fair but I know I'll have to come watch it, it gets better every year!

We Have a Winner!!

So I finally figured out what I'm going to do for my school's Salon Fair.  As I said in my last post, my model Mollie's hair was less than accepting of curl.  I originally wanted to do a full fingerwave look on her, but every time I tried the product would either not hold, or the style would flop from the weight of whatever lotion I used.

Then I tried a fingerwave in the front, pincurl in the back look.  Same result, and it just looked disconnected with the fingerwaves not brushed out.

As a last effort, I pincurled her bangs to create a pomp-curl look, and used white perm rods to wrap the rest of her hair in a rectangle wrap.  I stuck her under the dryer for 45 minutes (she was not pleased! She cannot sit still!) and low and behold, it worked!  I just used water for the perm rod wrapped hair and used a little setting lotion for the pincurls.

After brushing it out, she got kind of an ice cream sunday look to her bangs, and I poofed out the rest of the curls to give it a "gothic lolita" doll-ish look.  That's what we decided to go with.

For the final look, we're going to make everything bolder and give her some nice fake eyelashes for her upper and lower lids, to really make her eyes pop.

All together, I'm extremely pleased and I can't wait to get the entire look put together next Wednesday!!! I'll post pictures!

Fingerwave Test

So I've been testing hairstyles on my model for a salon fair I've entered at school for a few weeks now.  I want to give her fingerwaves and some major poof in the back of her hair for a fantasy look but I've had no end of trouble with her hair.  It's super fine and bleached white/blonde, so it resists curl like there's no tomorrow.  I've been trying different waving lotions to use with her hair and so far, almost everything I've used either doesn't have enough hold or has enough hold but is too heavy for her hair, so when I brush it out, the waves just go limp.

I'm planning on letting the front stay unbrushed for the most part, to keep the dramatic wave, but I may end up having to scrap the idea and figure something else out if it doesn't work on our next test...

I was pretty lazy with the pincurls in the back, so I know I have to make those smaller, tighter and more uniform to get the volume I want for the end result.

I didn't get a picture of the end result, because it flopped after I brushed it out.  Hopefully next time will be a success!

~Valentines With Jellyfish~

My boyfriend Steven took me to Underwater World for Valentines Day.  It was great, I love aquariums and I really love jellyfish! There was a great jellyfish exibit so I took a lot of pictures!

I wore my Side Effect Dress from Pinupgirlclothing.com with a pair of mary jane heels. For jewelry, I wore the pearl necklace and earings Steven bought me for Christmas. I was having a hard time doing much with my hair, so I just pinned up the side.  It gets pretty curly all on its own after I shower!

I wish I would have taken more pictures, I didn't get any from the actual underwater tunnel!

Success!

A few weeks ago in class, a friend of mine let me try out some finger waves in her hair.  It was pretty exciting because I'd only ever done them on mannequines and never on a live person.  I was extremely pleased with how they turned out!  Her hair was the perfect texture; the only problem was finding a product that would hold the wave.  I ended up using Hardwear by Redken and for the most part it worked really well.  It held great and her hair dried very fast under the hooded dryer.  The only downside was how flaky it got after combing the waves out, so I finished off the style with some oil spray from Design Essentials.  I pincurled the hair that was left past the waves and I love the stacked look it gave due to how her hair was cut.  All in all I think it was a success!

She also let me do her makeup which was an ordeal in itself.  She wanted the classic cat eye look to go with her hair and it ended up taking me about 3 tries for her left eye and probably 4 or 5 for her right.  I have the worst time matching the lines on both eyes.  I used a pen tip liquid eyeliner and I just couldn't get the wings to match or the thickness of the line on her eyelids to look right.  I finally got it though and finished her off with some shimmery white eyeshadow, some cheek color and my favorite cherry red lip gloss!

Thank you Gina for being a trooper!
