Fuchsia Hair

So it should come as no surprise that I got sick of my brunette/blue hair pretty quickly. I really loved the blue but wanted something more drastic. I debated back and forth whether I wanted to go completely blue which is something I've always wanted to do or if I should try fuchsia which I figured would be a little less upkeep.

I settled on going fuchsia and decided to stick with Manic Panic as my blue lasted much longer than expected and barely lost any intensity over time.

So again, I started with colored brunette with blue streaks and about 2 inches of regrowth. I decided to bleach my whole head and go all out and wasn't too worried about the damage because I hadn't lightened my hair in over 6 months.

I went with L'Oreal's Quick Blue bleach with a 30 volume cream developer. I opted not to go with a 40 volume to reduce damage and because I didn't need it completely blonde for fuchsia like I would if I went with blue.

I bleached over the blue streaks which didn't get rid of them, it just lightened them a bit. I let it all process for about 20 minutes before rinsing.

Sorry for the bad picture, but this was the end result. A brassy hot mess, which was really just fine. Since I was going with a red based color, the brassyness wouldn't affect it much whereas if I'd gone blue, I'd have had to have nearly bleached to white or risk the color pulling green (which has happened to me in the past...).

I let it all dry then got started on the color. Anyone who's ever used Manic Panic knows that stuff stains like none other. I would have gone with their Fuschia Shock but it wasn't available at the store I went to. Instead I bought Purple Haze and Hot Hot Pink and mixed it in even parts. I slapped it on and let it process for a little over an hour.

And this is the end result! Next time I think I'll mix the colors 2/3 pink with 1/3 purple but overall I love it!

We'll see how long this color lasts!

Our Little Girl's Bat Cave

The Kid's Bat Cave

So our little monkey is almost here. I'm 39 weeks 2 days and SO ready to not be pregnant any more... hint hint baby, you can come any time now!!

I've been busy as hell this summer and had absolutely 0 time to film. My makeup room is in our attic that currently has no A/C, so I wasn't in the position to do tutorials and all my weekends were filled with baby showers, birthday parties, holiday parties and more. Aaaaaaaaaand all this on top of starting a new job in June left me M.I.A from this blog and I do apologize. Last you heard from me I'd just announced the sex of our baby and showed off my blonde hair. 

Well, since then I've gone ginger again, then auburn/brown and now I've finished my hair with the typical "mom" color. I went back to as close to my natural shade as I could get it (with all the red undertones) to avoid the need to color it after our girl is born. I just know if I've been this busy without the kid here, I can't imagine how hectic things are going to get in just a matter of days....

My main project over the summer has been compiling things to get our nursery together. We painted it last June and decided to go with a bright turquoise for the walls. Early on I'd made the decision to avoid anything TOO girly for her room. I'm fine with pink and ponies and all that jazz, but the way I see it, the kid has 0 opinion at this point and since I'm putting my time/money in to this room, I'm going to decorate it how I like for now! If she wants to cover the walls in barbies and fairies someday, that's cool but for now, our theme was superhero!

My husband and I found several matching superhero posters at our Target and I love how they're more vintage-esque rather than the newer style of the cartoons/comics that are out there. Super lucky we were shopping when such convenient posters were out there! 

Most of my ideas came from Pinterest. I saw several adorable mini superhero posters/paintings/whatever they were and that's where I got the idea to do mini-paintings of vinyl Pop style superheroes. 

Steve and I picked our favorite heroes and I used acrylic paints to bring them to life! I plan on using ribbon on the outer borders eventually but just had no energy left to do it atm...

The pom poms and rope hanging on the walls and from the window came compliments of my mother. I found the idea for those off Pinterest also and set her to it and I think she did an amazing job! LOVE THEM!!!

I also Pinterested the crap out of this lamp. I saw a pin of a lamp that looked plain turned off but had a bat signal turned on, so I cut out a pizza pocket box in the shape of a bat and taped it on the inside of the lampshade... I'm pretty proud *sniff*

We decided to put the dresser in the closet to save space and I love it. We will take the doors off the closet eventually to open it up more. 

And that's my nursery! Now all it needs is a baby <3

Dun Dun Dunnnnnnnnnnnnn...........

(Steve wanted to strangle me for my announcement, but shut up when I reminded him he knowingly married a crazy cat lady)

So indeed! The cat's out of the bag! Steve and I are expecting our first child this September!

It's crazy to think that this time last year we were barely engaged, and I'll be 9 months pregnant during our first anniversary, but that's how we do! We like to joke that we're just getting all our big stuff out of the way quick so we can get on with life and keep things chill from there on out, but I know that's just wishful thinking...

A quick note about the announcement, I have to mention the "boy" cat is a freaking cat doppelganger of poor Steve. His sister found that picture years ago, and from the moment I saw it, I knew I'd have to find a way to torture him with it someday and here it is! None of the pictures are ours, all were found on Google, so rights go to their original photographers!

Super excited yet scared as $&*% for our new addition, and plan on posting quite a bit about the next 6-ish months. I'm actually 13 weeks today, so HELLO 2nd trimester! We are going to find out the sex as soon as possible and then it will be time to decorate! Expect lots of DIY's and design posts because I'm all kinds of excited to do the nursery.

Don't worry though, beauty is still my main love and I'll have more tutorials posted regularly!

I'm gonna go cry/feed/nap/crave things now :)

DIY Paper Flowers - 3 Different Kinds of Paper Roses

Eep - I know I'm a week late, but absence makes the heart grow fonder... or something...

 

Any'who, I decided to make a tutorial showing how I made my DIY flowers or my upcoming wedding (2 weeks away!!)

 

I used 3 different types, fancy roses, swirly roses and fancy swirly roses :)

 

I'll post the link to the blog I got the template for the stencils of the fancy roses, otherwise I just learned by youtubing/pinteresting.

 

Going with paper flowers was a very affordable, but time consuming decision. I decided on them about 2 weeks in to our engagement, and finished everything I needed about 4 weeks before the wedding... So about a solid 5 months of off and on work. The centerpieces were by far the worst, and the bouquets took me about 3-4 hours a piece. It was worth it though, because I paid about $150 for all the materials used instead of $600-$800 minimum of what it would have cost to go with a florist for everything. WIN!
